Building strategic alliance in the Tuli-Karoo Transboundary Aquifer
Summary
The Joint Strategic Plan (JSAP) for the TBA seeks to establish strategies and plans required to address the challenges facing the Aquifer.
Located in the Limpopo Basin, the Tuli-Karoo Transboundary Aquifer (TBA) straddles the territories of three LIMCOM countries namely Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Thousands of people call the TBA home, with agriculture and mining being the dominant economic sectors.
However, the TBA like other aquifers the world over, is facing increasing pressure from several factors including growing population and increased water demand.
Working with various partners such as the SADC-GMI and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), LIMCOM is building strategic alliances to strengthen livelihoods in the TBA.
On 2-3 October, the LIMCOM Groundwater Committee (LGC) met in Johannesburg South Africa to guide the development of the Tuli Karoo Joint Strategic Action Plan.
