Exciting milestone achieved as 1st Joint Basin Survey is completed

Conducted in phases since August 2024, the Limpopo JBS seeks to deepen cooperation in transboundary water management in the basin, particularly in water quality, river health and ecological flow requirements.

The final phase of the 1st Limpopo Joint Basin Survey has successfully concluded, marking a significant step towards understanding the dynamics of the Limpopo River Basin and its potential for sustainable development.

The phase focused on the hypersaline estuarine component in the Changane sub-catchment, leveraging the rainy season for accurate data collection.

Conducted in phases since August 2024, the Limpopo JBS seeks to deepen cooperation in transboundary water management in the basin, particularly in water quality, river health and ecological flow requirements.

It also lays the basis for the development of a comprehensive and updated Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) plan for the Limpopo River Basin as well as paving the way for the establishment of a transboundary river health monitoring team in the basin.
