LIMCOM share experiences at Global Workshop

Summary

The main aim of the workshop was to identify how new technologies and innovations for monitoring, assessment and data‑sharing can meaningfully enhance transboundary water cooperation.

LIMCOM has successfully participated in the Global Workshop on the Use of New Technologies and Innovations for Monitoring, Assessment and Data-Sharing in Transboundary Basins held in Geneva, Switzerland on 5-6 May 2026.

Environment and Water Resources Management Specialist, Mr. Zvikomborero Manyangadze, took part in multiple sessions in Geneva, where he presented initiatives being undertaken by LIMCOM to harness digital innovations to strengthen transboundary water management across the basin

These initiatives include the development of the Limpopo Digital Twin – the first prototype of its kind in Africa.

Developed in partnership with International Water Management Institute (IWMI), the Limpopo Digital Twin is an interactive platform that delivers real-time insights into the basin. The digital twin integrates hydrological, climatic, irrigation and water use data with intuitive maps and analytics.

The Global Workshop was organized by the Water Convention Secretariat in cooperation with Finland and Senegal as co-lead Parties for Programme Area supporting monitoring, assessment and information-sharing in the UN Water Convention.
