Towards a Strategic Action Programme for the Limpopo
Summary
The SAP formulation process that is happening concurrently with the development of National Action Plans (NAPs), seeks to address basin-wide challenges, while NAPs focus on country-specific priorities within the basin.
A basin-wide working session on the formulation of a Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the Limpopo River Basin (LRB) was successfully held in Maputo, Mozambique in December 2025.
The two-day session aimed to expose members of the SAP formulation team with novel approaches to address identified water-related environmental problems identified in the Limpopo Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) report.

The working session that ran on 8-9 December, forms part of the broader initiative under the project, “Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin.”
LIMCOM is implementing the project in partnership with the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, with support from UNDP, through funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
