Working session on development of strategic action programme for the Limpopo
Summary
The SAP seeks to address basin-wide challenges identified in the Limpopo Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) report.
A working session on the formulation of the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the Limpopo River Basin (LRB) was held in Gaborone, Botswana on 12 November 2025.
The SAP seeks to address basin-wide challenges identified in the Limpopo Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) report. Its formulation is taking place alongside the development of National Action Plans (NAPs), which focus on country-specific priorities within the basin.
Speaking at the session, the LIMCOM Chair, represented by Dr. Kene Dick, from the Republic of Botswana, encouraged Member State representatives to actively engage in shaping the SAP.
“The purpose of this meeting is for us to start working on the SAP, so that we are able to improve our basin and the livelihood of our communities,” Dr. Kene said.
LIMCOM Executive Secretary, Mr. Sergio Sitoe echoed the sentiment and commended Member States for their leadership in driving the formulation of both the NAPs and the SAP.
The working session forms part of the broader initiative, “Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin.”
